About Bert Croom

Profile and BCPI Company Information Bert Croom accepted a position at Wilmington Police Department under the direction of Chief Darryl Bruestle in August 1978 to June of 1987. June of 1987 Bert accepted a position at Carolina Beach Police Department by the Chief of Police Harold Woods and worked as the Detective Sergeant through 1992 where he then accepted a position as Chief of Police in Tabor City that was offered to him by the Town Manager and Mayor. Bert stayed on as Chief of Police for two years during which time the City was in civil unrest. The Southern Christianship Alliance and the NAACP had rally marches through the town once a week. When Bert took charge of the police department the State Highway Patrol, Columbus County Sheriff’s Office and the Prison Department had units stationed in the city. The Department needed a lot of help. Within two months the Tabor City Police Department needed no outside help and within 4 months the rally marches against the town had come to a stop. This was brought to a conclusion by Chief Bert Croom meeting with Christina Williams a leader in the Southern Christianship Alliance and NAACP on a regular basis. Working together in compromise we all agreed this town could move forward and that I would work with them to see that it did. The town was back to normal with very low crime rate at this time. Bert Croom started the first Lunch with an officer program, Citizen Watch, Hazardous Operations Team and Canine team in Tabor City. Bert Croom also merged with the Columbus County 911 System to give the citizens of the town better access to Emergency Fire Rescue and Police. Bert Croom started Tabor City’s first Law Enforcement training plan and within a few months had all of the Tabor City Officers and many surrounding Departments sending their officers to Tabor City’s Training Center. After two years Bert decided he was ready to go back to my home town Wilmington NC. Bert was asked by the Town Manager to find a replacement Chief of Police and if I would stay on as a consultant. I did that as well assisting the new Chief of Police in the transfer of duty. Bert decided to go into the Private Industry and start up his own Investigative Company. After 171/2 years in Local Law Enforcement established Bert Croom Private Investigation Company in 1994. Bert Croom while working as a private investigator enrolled in Under Graduate courses and from February 1994, to March 25th, 1999 he completed and was awarded his Bachelors of Science, where his major was Criminal Justice. Also in March 23rd 2001 Bert was awarded his Masters in Criminal Justice. Bert Croom has also attended 81 specialized classes over 2600, hours at the North Carolina Justice Academy, Cape Fear Community College, James Sprunt Community College, Wilmington Police Department, New Hanover Sheriff’s Department, Tabor City Police Department and Carolina Beach Police Department training. Bert Croom was also a State Certified Instructor for over 15 years. Private Investigations courses are a success!

Education make a people easy to lead, but difficult to drive: easy to govern, but impossible to enslave.

Education is not the filling of a pail,
but the lighting of a fire.

Tell me and I’ll forget. Show me, and I may not remember. Involve me, and I’ll understand.

You have to get started before you can get ahead. I see great things in in 2012 and 2013 in the Private Investigative Industry. Dont be left behind. Use your God given talent to forge ahead and have fun doing it!
